Competition review: This is something from last year thought is worth sharing (Published December 2009)

The market share “battle” is raging again, this time between Orange, and Zain who were trying to attack Orange’s stronghold “Army Line” which is a line specifically tailored for the military sector individuals, a segment dominated by orange.

But where did Umniah go this time?

Zain

Another Camouflage, but this time with a free phone.

Orange

Fighting back by hinting of being the largest network.

Zain Jordan kicked off the new year with a branding and loyalty campaign aimed towards their existing customers. It started with a film strip layout teaser with the message “Your choice is right”, then with ads claiming their strengths as strongest network, customer service, etc. (No comment about how accurate those messages really are as this is not the purpose of this blog).

Campaign teaser ad

Quick observations about this campaign:

-How can a mobile provider be “the most humane” in the last ad? Confusing
-Good photography quality and art direction.
-The color tone is mystic and not the kind we’re used to see for Zain’s ads where it was always vivid and colorful.
-What is the purpose of the film strip here?  It has no direct relationship to the delivered message or the concept and is just redundant.

Various Christmas ads in Jordan’s newspapers:

Everhome: We wish you a merry Christmas and a “fiery” new year!

Umniah, typical ad

Zain, and the ornaments are back again!

Classic seasonal ad, nice colors and details

Cozmo, Best of the season although they’ve done much better ads in the past.

It appears both Orange and Zain are obsessed with flags, though the products are different but those ads have much in common:

-Both are mediocre and have no concept (what happened to IDEAS instead of just using a stock image with a header?)

-Art direction is below average for both
