Competition review: This is something from last year thought is worth sharing (Published December 2009)
The market share “battle” is raging again, this time between Orange, and Zain who were trying to attack Orange’s stronghold “Army Line” which is a line specifically tailored for the military sector individuals, a segment dominated by orange.
But where did Umniah go this time?
Another Camouflage, but this time with a free phone.
Fighting back by hinting of being the largest network.
Advertising and media revenues fall in 2009 January 2, 2010

In an interesting article on Emerging Voice by Oxford Business Group, advertising revenues were expected to fall 20% for 2009 to $240 Million compared with $303 Million in 2008. And it mentions the campaign by IAA which featured positive quotes and business facts about performance under difficult conditions, and is still running at some outdoor locations.
Even without the impact of the financial slowdown it was also expected for advertising expenditures to fall, as the sudden surge was caused mainly by rebranding campaigns for major advertisers in 2007-2008, so just 20% decline isn’t that bad for the sector.
“In mid-November, the Jordan chapter of the International Advertising Association (IAA Jordan) announced it was launching a media awareness campaign to promote optimism in the economy and, just as importantly for the sector, the importance of maintaining advertising during the downturn.According to Karim Abu Khadra, the president of IAA Jordan, the campaign will put the spotlight on firms that achieved growth thanks to continued advertising. Rather than reduce spending on advertising, as was so often the case in times of recession, studies showed that increasing promotional outlays could help a company weather hard economic times”

Various Christmas ads in Jordan’s newspapers:

Everhome: We wish you a merry Christmas and a “fiery” new year!

Zain, and the ornaments are back again!
Classic seasonal ad, nice colors and details

Cozmo, Best of the season although they’ve done much better ads in the past.

A nice campaign for Mazaj FM, creating awareness about their programs and in the same time featuring the presenters. No unneeded information

Finally Orange seem to be planning to launch the service early 2010 with this teaser campaign all over the city, good news for Orange subscribers.
Though, the illustrations look childish for a high tech service.

This ad for Samsung mobile plays around the word “shlonak” which means “how are you doing?” and also means “What is your color?” So far so good, but this expression though understood in Jordan but it is not a common expression it’s more common in Iraq and Gulf (Not sure if this ad was part of a regional campaign or local).

It appears both Orange and Zain are obsessed with flags, though the products are different but those ads have much in common:
-Both are mediocre and have no concept (what happened to IDEAS instead of just using a stock image with a header?)
-Art direction is below average for both
